  • Wedge

In May 2002, I made a statement that would change my life. I was at Alta Lake Park in Whistler, B.C. staring at this peak. The peak seemed to be visible from everywhere I went and it looked too good to be true. For this peak has a couloir that catches your eye and needs to be skied. This is North West Couloir of Wedge.

That day started a plan that would continually change for an entire year. Buddies would get injured, weather would cause delays, and life itself would present every problem it could. Still there was something about this peak.

In May 2003 at a campfire on the sunshine coast of British Columbia, I rallied in friends Derek Burgen, Cavin Dykeman, and Curt Lowenstein for the mission. The four of us would do it, even though that meant taking the scenic route due to the late time of year. What occurred during that trip is truly inspirational. As were the people I met along the way to Wedge. I documented all of it on film, from the incredible talent in Whistler, to the new schoolers in Steamboat, to the powder of Taos. This is the story behind an idea and the life that it had. This is the story of wedge.
