  • Dome- Feb-2008

2/15 Best day on the Dome, ever. Amazing day with just beautiful blue skies and perfect snow. We even managed to ski the South Face, which I hadn't really experienced yet, but will definitely be back on at some point this year. Two laps (one S, one Dome) had us coming out late under a spectacular sunset. Enjoy the pics.

December is Done and it Could Have Killed Us

While we are awaiting photos, it was a heck of an adventure. I do think Chad thought he was going to die at one point, but here's the tale "Unnecessary hike Mike! I live up to my nickname as I got some bad advice from a friend on entering Harrison Creek (see May in the year project) from the West summit of Rabbit Ears. This took us through some lame mellow terrain, followed by a long down climb before we even got to our hike. At this point, Chad was over it, and turned to head out as Leo and I finish the job and cap the A Day A Year project with some decent pow turns in the trees of Harrison. Unfortunately, Leo's skins both fail on the way out and we share the remaining pair, one skin on, one skin off and slowly make our way back. 6 hours later, the day was done! yikes! Many down logs and trees make the bc not the most desirable place at the moment."

Enjoy the photos and notice the progression of Chad:

An intertesting start to the season on the boat as I cut a decent slide off chute 1. Notice Buddha getting a little worked...he's fine though, as seen in following shots.

    November in the Bag!

With word of Utah picking up 41" in October, we headed for Alta and hit the west shoulder of Baldy! Check out the other antics from our "A Day/A Year" project here:

Also, Murray's been lighting fires again...

After a successful first venture in summit area, Steamboat picked up 6" in town and probably another 16" on the mtn, so it was time to get the band back together and hike for Storm Peak. Chad, Tim, Shakleton, The Cheat, and I made our way up the peak and had to take a side route due to a goat loving hunter gutting some animal on the trail. Thus, enjoy the footage of me eating it on the climb up Pony Express. We lucked out as the late start provided a beautiful gold sky as we descended at approximately 5:30PM.

    October

Well, what can I say, it was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Leo and I try out Mount Bethel 12,075', which is just east of Eisenhower tunnel. We decided to stay just shy of the summit due to a lack of snow, topping out at 12k even. We did find some great pow turns and Leo got the first legitimate face shot of the year. The hike out was a bit lengthy as the bottom was still covered in a thick thicket along the river. Leo manages to lose his boots in the 'parking lot' and I lost my house keys, so it's clear that we haven't completely made the transition into winter yet, but with some good luck, we've recovered most of the lost items. As you will see in pictures yet to post, it was full on winter up there. We will have more pictures to follow, but for now, we'll take this!

    September

Leo and I take out Skyscraper peak in Winter Park to knock down the September day looming over us. A great, steep run with a beautiful set of lakes as a backdrop. We would have been done sooner, but it was bush whack city getting out. Enjoy the pics! Note, there are more pictures then I could post on the slideshow. July and August

Tex and I took out the ski days for July and August by hiking up Breckenridge's Peak 10 to the 4th of July Bowl and then St. Mary's Glacier on Aug 1. Given the fact that we are skiing on the last day of July and the first day of August, I'll take it! The hike in on both was pretty minor compared to our June adventure, but there's a pretty funny story to go with the Breck adventure. When you look at the pictures, you'll see what I mean.

Zirkel Trip-June Ski day out of the way

We knocked out the ski day for June by hiking up Gilpin lake in the Zirkel Wilderness area. The snow was acutally really good, with firmer spring-like conditions. Given the fact that it's June 23, I'll take 800 vertical feet of steep skiing! We topped it off with some turns down to the lake and blistered ourselves back down the trail. Here are some of the photos:

Still Skiing in the Boat-Harrison in May

Another great day of Whistler-like powder! Skied the corner of a secret zone on the Ears and let's just say that Steve was right. It's a wealth of great skiing and options abound. Here's a photo from the top of my run.
